Comfort Food - 1

Only very recently, I started to admit that I am LAZY. That took guts to say so. I tend to easily point my fingers to others. One day, I realized that I am more likely to be annoyed by a habit, a bad habit, of mine in others. Does that make sense to you? In light of this new "realization", I've decided to give my self 6 months to do my best to clean up my act. Thankfully July 1st is right around the corner, which marks the exact, somewhat, half of the year. Not saying that I'll be a new person all in just 6 months. It's more like the groundbreaking stage. I'm pretty sure no one reads this blog. So this claim is completely solitary - sounds like a case of CYA... Who knows? This could be my big moment.

Food.

I realized that I have a weird emotional dependency on food. I think enjoying a meal is hardly a crime. Actually, I think one ought to enjoy the savoring of deliciously prepared meals and company (and yes, I think the "company" should be deliciously prepared as well as the food). I've always been on the chubby side. Even when I was in best shape of my life, I was still chubby by the standard of my culture and social network. I'm not sure if that is the source of my obsession with food, but I realize that it exists. Perhaps it's that love-hate relationship of 'no I can't, but I must...' type of thing?
I always felt that I needn't the second serving of the ice cream, but I always just had to have some more. Not because ingesting food felt "good" but it felt good while I tasted. Does that make sense to you?
I can count numerous occasions, where I'd gorge on too much this and that, and didn't know when to stop simply because it tasted GOOD. I also can say that about 98% of the time, after the thoughtless devouring, I'd feel....well...AWEFUL.

I have an allergy to wheat products. It's not severe like those who cannot even breathe in flour, but it's pretty bad. Within minutes of ingesting any kind of food containing wheat, I get indigestion, swelling of my entire body (imagine having the pre-menstrual bloating constantly)...not to mention the long, and frequent, trips to the toilet during work, accompanied by the nervous and irritation of hoping no one else comes to the bathroom....hhhh

If you are a Korean, you can only imagine the emotional stress coming from this. Name one of the most popular Korean snack foods.
Ok. Now name next ten.

Here's my list of few.
1. Dduk bokki (stir fried rice cake in sweet spicy sauce) - rice cakes shouldn't have any wheat in it, most of the rice cakes made for this kind of cooking contains some portion of wheat, because the rice cake is expensive to make.
2. Jjajangmyun (Korean style Chinese noodles - wheat noodles)
3. JjamBbong (Korean style Chinese seafood noodles - wheat)
4. Bibin Guksu (Korean noodles in tangy spicy sauce - wheat)
5. Sujaebi (Korean dumpling(no stuffing) soup - wheat)

Do you hear my jive?
I still eat them - until I had my fill. And I get sick.
Something is seriously wrong with me.
